Outback Western Australia
You always try for a shot like this but they’re usually a mile away by the time you’re anywhere near them. They’re big, they’re smart and they’re awesome to see up close. Don’t know why but this guy was a bit slow getting off the ‘roo he was picking at (you can see the blood on it’s talons). I’d seen him from a distance and got the window down and the camera ready but at 100kmh (possibly a bit more) there’s still not a lot of time. If I slowed too much it spooks them and they’re off so I have to keep a decent speed but also take the shot as I drive past. I had the 70-200mm lens on and even zoomed out to 70mm it wasn’t enough to get all of him in the frame. Usually I’m at 200mm and he’s just a speck.
