The Tip, Cape York, Far North Queensland
I’d ridden the motorbike (Triumph Tiger 800 XC) from Melbourne up through the Flinders Ranges, Marree, Alice, across the Plenty Highway, up to the Atherton Tablelands, Cairns, Cape Trib, Cooktown, Weipa and finally up to the tip of Cape York where I stood there, looked around and decided the best shot would be an aerial of the tip, looking back. So now I need a plane (didn’t have a drone yet) but it turned out the caravan park I camped at (Punsand Bay) had a helicopter right there on the beach. An unusual bit of good luck. First sunny morning and I’m in business. Nine days later and I was still waiting. Every morning (it had to be a morning shot) was either overcast, raining, or just too cloudy. Normally I’d head off to the next destination and come back another time but it’s a long, hard ride to get there so I had to stick around. There are worse places to be stuck for nine days but it was still pretty frustrating. The worst part of this story is that the print didn’t sell. I probably shouldn’t even have it here on the website ‘cause no one wants it but I like it and it was so hard to get the image I don’t want to feel like all that was wasted if it just sits on a hard drive in a drawer.
